Join Berks Arts Council for a celebration of Jazz and the visual arts! Founded during Berks Jazz Fest 2005, the
Frank Scott Memorial Art Show:The Art of Jazz honors legendary local jazz artist Frank Scott. The theme "Celebrate Jazz" is an opportunity for the artist to reflect on what Jazz means as interpreted by visual arts.
The exhibition is on view March 26 – April 27 in the Schmidt Gallery at the GoggleWorks Center for the Arts.

SOUTH Jazz Parlor at Berks to host 13 concerts at DoubleTree
|
|
|
The iconic SOUTH Kitchen & Jazz Parlor in Philadelphia and Berks Arts Council have reached an agreement making SOUTH, one of the 50 Best Jazz Clubs in America, a major branding partner with the 27th annual Boscov’s Berks Jazz Fest. This new jazz club venue at the Fest will be in the DoubleTree ballroom during the 10-day festival.

SOUTH Jazz Parlor at Berks. “We are excited about our partnership with the Berks Jazz Fest,” said SOUTH Kitchen & Jazz Parlor owner Robert Bynum. “We are pleased to be working with a wonderful organization like Berks that has that same commitment and dedication to this wonderful art form of jazz.” WRTI 90.1 FM radio will be the media partner for the SOUTH Jazz Parlor at Berks. “It’s a wonderful collaboration between the Boscov’s Berks Jazz Fest, SOUTH Kitchen & Jazz Parlor and WRTI,” said WRTI jazz host Jeff Duperon. “WRTI has been associated with and a supporter of the Boscov’s Berks Jazz Fest since its inception."

Every year since 1981, the Berks County Intermediate Unit (BCIU) has presented an annual art exhibit featuring the creative works of exceptional Berks County secondary school students. Hosted by GoggleWorks Center for the Arts, the exhibit displays artwork by young artists from Berks County’s 18 public school districts. Also supported by Reading-Berks Guild of Craftsmen and Berks Art Council, the showcase includes a wide range of categories, including: oil, watercolor and acrylic painting, printmaking, calligraphy, sculpture, fiber arts, photography, ceramics, digital art, jewelry, basket weaving, pastel, and drawing.

The world's most celebrated Japanese drumming sensation, Kodo, continues to break new ground and explore the limitless possibilities of the traditional Japanese drum, the taiko. Performing this latest work by renowned Artistic Director Tamasaburo Bando,
Dadan 2017 - or "drumming men" - offers a bold new exploration of Japanese drumming traditions, uniquely featuring solely young male Kodo performers with unusual percussive pieces. These performers continue to be that rare combination of supreme artistry and physical endurance which creates a mesmerizing, riviting, and spiritual experience.

The Adams County Arts Council invites submissions to its 14th Annual Juried Art Exhibition, June 1 - 23, in Schmucker Art Gallery, Gettysburg College. Awards total $2,750 with a $1000 Best of Show prize. There is a $30 entry fee for Adams County Arts Council members and a $45 fee for non-members. Any person over 18 years of age is eligible to submit work for consideration. Deadline for submissions is March 10.
