May 19, 20, & 21: Death Defying Acts: 3 one-act comedies
DATES/TIMES:
Friday & Saturday, May 19 & 20 @ 7:30 p.m.
Sunday, May 21 @ 2:30 p.m.
LOCATION: Perkins Auditorium at Penn State Berks Campus Student Center

A man walks alone into a sparsely furnished room and sits in a chair in front of a desk. A woman, dressed in black robes, enters, sits behind the desk, and proceeds to stare at him silently and imperiously. The nervous man begins a conversation with the woman in what will become an increasingly agitated defense of his own past and profession for stakes that at first are not quite clear. That’s the premise of the short play An Interview by David Mamet, one of three short plays by Reading Community Players. The other two plays are Hotline by Elaine May and Central Park West by Woody Allen. All three are directed by Bruce McLean. Tickets $15. Available at the door.

Visit the Reading Community Players website for more information.

May 20: Vox Philia & Berks Sinfonietta presents A Time to Dance

TIME: 7:30 p.m.
LOCATION: Immanuel UCC | 99 S Waverly St. | Shillington, PA 19607

Vox Philia, accompanied by Berks Sinfonietta, presents the American premiere of a new work by English composer Alec Roth. In a February 2016 Gramophone magazine review of the CD, Alexandra Coghlan writes: “The music is richly melodic, twitching with rhythmic energy, with wide harmonic vistas conjured up by even more widely spaced modal harmonies; Copland lies on the horizon of so much of its vibrant directness, shaded by the occasional bluesy nod to Gershwin and even Sondheim…" The performance will also include works of art created by students at the Montessori school. Tickets $10 Adults / $5 Students.

For more information, visit the Vox Philia website.
