Kick off your holiday season with “Tidings of Jazz & Joy”


The 2017 Boscov’s Berks Jazz Fest holiday concert is Tidings of Jazz & Joy starring Keiko Matsui & Euge Groove featuring Lindsey Webster & Adam Hawley.

Keiko Matsui is the transcendent pianist/composer whose music with the luscious melodies is adored around the world. Matsui is acclaimed for her signature lyricism and warm harmonies. The familiar elements of her music are new age, world beat, light classical and contemporary jazz all presented in an East-meets-West fashion.

Euge Groove is a sensational smooth jazz saxophonist with a strong Top-40 background. Groove did not record his first solo album until 2000. Prior to that, he had replaced Richard Elliot in the Tower of Power when Elliot decided to pursue a solo career, and he also did session work with various pop acts, most noticeably the Miami girl group Exposé.

Berks Arts Council members receive a 20% discount on DREAMGIRLS tickets!

A musical based on the show business aspirations and successes of acts such as The Supremes, The Shirelles, James Brown, etc. A young female singing trio from Chicago gets their big break at an amateur competition and begins singing backup vocals for James "Thunder" Early. However, things begin to spin out of control when their agent, Curtis Taylor, Jr., makes Deena and not Effie, the star of what will become known as "The Dreams."

SATURDAY: Reading Choral Society hosts last Summer Sing of 2017

Join members of the RCS in a workshop on Durufle's Requiem: Chant in 20th & 21st century choral music. The workshop facilitator is Dr. Daniel Spratlan, Director of Music at Presbyterian Church of Chestnut Hill and interim Director of Choral and Vocal Studies at Haverford College. He is an active professional singer with a versatile bass voice that has allowed him to perform many genres of vocal music. He will start the day with a 1-hour reading session focusing on 20th & 21st century choral works that draw their musical material from chant. This workshop is open to the public.

Join Berks History Center for a rockin’ good time at "The Magical History Tour: Hours of Flower Power." Dance to your favorite music of the 60's and 70's with band reunion members from Hot Ice, The Rockers, the Rock 'n Roll Soul Revival, and more. Bring lawn chairs, blankets, and your dancing shoes. Dress in comfortable vintage attire and have a fab time. Rain or shine. No outside food, drinks, or coolers permitted.

Ten years ago, in Faces of Reading: 1000 Portraits of a City, John Pankratz, Ph.D., Albright professor of history, documented the diversity of the city's population by photographing personal portraits of 1,026 city residents. Now, a decade later, Pankratz, with the collaboration of Angela Cremer '17, have set out to document how those faces have changed in the new exhibit Faces of Reading + 10. The Yocum Institute for Arts Education is pleased to present Erwin Chandler’s "Chandler Chamber Wind Ensemble" and their performance, Horns A Plenty. The Wind Ensemble features eight horns and will be led by Chandler. He is presenting a two-concert series to help promote Wind and Brass chamber music and will present standard wind literature as well as his own compositions. AUGUST 25: RPM Senior Series - Secrets of the Dead: The Mona Lisa Mystery
DATE: Friday, August 25 (Series runs the fourth Friday of every month)

Originally aired in 2016, PBS Documentary The Mona Lisa Mystery: Secrets of the Dead will be shown at the Museum. The Mona Lisa is the most famous painting in the world, created by the hand of a genius, marveled at by millions every year in the Louvre in Paris–but could there be a second Mona Lisa? In 1913, an interesting portrait surfaced, the so-called “Isleworth Mona Lisa.” Using sophisticated scientific analysis, scientists will test both paintings to determine whether Leonardo da Vinci painted an earlier version of the iconic portrait. The series is free to members and free with Museum admission. Guests of all ages are welcome. All documentary screenings are held in The Neag Planetarium.

Muhlenberg Township hosts its second annual food and music festival in picturesque Jim Dietrich Park with the Schuylkill River as the picturesque backdrop. Live acoustic and amplified bands on two stages, beer and wine gardens, a variety of food and snack vendors, crafters, and much more.

AUGUST 30: Last Downtown Alive concert presents 24 Horas, George Lamond & Funk Salsa Urban

Downtown Alive's summer series concludes with a trio of performances: 24 Horas, an international bachata group; George Lamond, the salsa and American freestyle music singer who is best known for his No. 1 salsa hit "Que Te Vas;" and Funk Salsa Urban, a band that uses basic salsa rhythms with elements of funk and urban. End summer on a dancing note. Free.

Studio B Fine Art Gallery is announcing an All-Inclusive Exhibition of artists' conception of the "vessel." Search this word and see the infinite ideas that come from the word. The cost is $30 to exhibit, and each artist may submit two pieces. Almost any medium is acceptable: drawing, painting, glass, ceramic, wood, metal or plastic, yarn, hemp, paper, or found object. CALL FOR VOCALISTS & MUSICIANS: Christmas at FirstEnergy Stadium
America's Classic Ballpark will turn into a winter wonderland this holiday season when the Fightin Phils host Christmas at FirstEnergy Stadium. The event will run from "Black Friday," November 24 through Saturday, December 23. Local bands, choruses, and musicians will play yuletide favorites on the Boscov's Berks Jazz Fest Stage. The Fightins are calling all local choirs, bands, orchestras, and other musical groups to schedule to perform. Those interested can contact Todd Hunsicker at THunsicker@fightins.com for more information. All performers receive FREE tickets for the holiday event.

Walk In Art Center will be hosting it's annual Holiday Market. This show is for all things art, handmade, one of a kind, and unique. Sell your wares and join a growing show that is a destination spot during the Schuylkill Spirit of the Holiday tour.
