Winner of nine Tony Awards, Fiddler on the Roof
is set in the little village of Anatevka. The story centers on Tevye, a poor milkman, and his five daughters. With the help of a colorful and tight-knit Jewish community, Tevye tries to protect his daughters and instill them with traditional values in the face of changing social mores and the growing anti-Semitism of Czarist Russia. "Sunrise, Sunset," "If I Were a Rich Man" and "Matchmaker, Matchmaker," are just a few of the well-known songs found in Fiddler on the Roof. Rich in historical and ethnic detail and requiring a cast of various ages, Reading Civic Theatre is honored to have the opportunity to bring this show to the Berks County area!

Tickets $25. Tickets can be purchased via the MIller Center website or by calling the box office at 610-607-6270. A 10% discount on each ticket is available for groups of 20 or more.

Join the Reading Symphony Orchestra for a playful night of music! Soloists Eric Wyrick and Andre Gaskins collaborate with the orchestra for Miklós Rózsa’s Sinfonia Concertante for Violin, Cello & Orchestra, Op. 29, a fiery work that builds on Hungarian folk themes. Also on the program are Reznicek’s bubbly Donna Diana Overture, Ravel’s magical and delicate Mother Goose Suite, and Strauss’s Till Eulenspiegel’s Merry Pranks, a colorful tone poem that chronicles the misadventures of a German folk hero.

Dom Flemons is a Grammy Award winning musician, singer-songwriter, and slam poet. Carrying on the songster tradition, Flemons strives to mix traditional music forms with a contemporary approach, to create new sounds that will appeal to wider audiences. In his recent solo album Prospect Hill (2014), Flemons drew from a wide range of styles, including ragtime, Piedmont blues, spirituals, southern traditional music, string band music, fife and drum music, and jug-band music. Tickets $27 Adult / $15 Student.

NOVEMBER 17: The Bard Conservatory Ensemble

Join the Friends of Chamber Music as they welcome back students and faculty from the prestigious Bard Conservatory for an evening of works featuring strings and winds.

*Franz Danzi: Quartet for Bassoon and Strings, Op. 40, No. 1
*Mauricio Kagel: Selections from Aus dem Nachlass, for Viola, Cello and Bass
*Beethoven: Septet in E-flat Major, Op. 20

The Bard College Conservatory of Music, founded in 2005, is guided by the principle that musicians should be broadly educated in the liberal arts and sciences to achieve their greatest potential. All undergraduates complete two degrees over a five-year period, a bachelor of music and a bachelor of arts in a field other than music. Free and open to the public.

For the first time, Berks Sinfonietta is featuring an "all-strings" program! Join them for a special live performance of Benjamin Britten's Simple Symphony, Percy Grainger's Mock Morris and Molly on the Shore, and Edvard Grieg's Two Elegiac Melodies. The Sinfonietta is also pleased to have local pianist Paulino Contreras join them for Doreen Carwithen's Concerto for Piano and Strings as part of their ongoing commitment to performing works by female composers. CALL FOR NOMINATIONS: Alan Cooper Leadership in the Arts Award
Mid Atlantic Arts Foundation (MAAF) is pleased to announce the inaugural round of the Alan Cooper Leadership in the Arts Award. Named after MAAF's Executive Director from 1994-2017, the Alan Cooper Award honors an arts leader who has impacted the arts sector in meaningful ways including creating model programs, developing innovative partnerships, and embodying dedication to the arts and diverse artistic expression. Though not necessary for nomination, MAAF is interested in recognizing an arts leader who has made significant contributions via public-private partnerships or in international cultural exchange.

Nominations are being accepted through December 15, 2017.
Eligible nominees will have demonstrated impactful leadership in the arts within MAAF's nine state region of DC, DE, MD, NJ, NY, PA, USVI, VA, or WV. For more information please visit the Mid Atlantic Arts Foundation website.
