Fast Lane Art is open for submissions!


Fast Lane Art is a juried contest and exhibition presented by Berks Arts Council which celebrates and displays the work of student and professional artists on highways throughout Greater Reading. Creators of the top three high school artworks and top three professional artworks will see their winning entries larger-than-life on billboards throughout Berks County thanks to Land Displays. Winning artists also receive cash prizes.

Winner of nine Tony Awards, Fiddler on the Roof
is set in the little village of Anatevka. The story centers on Tevye, a poor milkman, and his five daughters. With the help of a colorful and tight-knit Jewish community, Tevye tries to protect his daughters and instill them with traditional values in the face of changing social mores and the growing anti-Semitism of Czarist Russia. "Sunrise, Sunset," "If I Were a Rich Man" and "Matchmaker, Matchmaker," are just a few of the well-known songs found in Fiddler on the Roof. Rich in historical and ethnic detail and requiring a cast of various ages, Reading Civic Theatre is honored to have the opportunity to bring this show to the Berks County area!

Tickets $25. Tickets can be purchased via the MIller Center website or by calling the box office at 610-607-6270. A 10% discount on each ticket is available for groups of 20 or more.

Reading Symphony Orchestra celebrates New Year's Eve with Time for Three

The innovative, category-shattering trio Time for Three (Tf3) transcends traditional classification. Fusing elements of classical, country western, gypsy, and jazz idioms, the trio creates a unique musical blend with cross-generational appeal. Praising their charismatic musicianship, NPR said, “with their staggering technique and freewheeling genre-crossing, it’s hard not to be swept up in the force of their contagious energy.” Tickets: $20-$80. Gring's Mill park is glowing with thousands of twinkling lights for the annual Holiday Lights at Gring's Mill program. Each evening visitors can enjoy seasonal entertainment and visits with Santa in the barn, an HO scale model train display, as well as the walk-through light display around the park. Saul's career spans almost 40 years of performance singing Country Blues, Bluegrass, and other traditional and contemporary forms of grassroots American music. Schuylkill River Greenways calls for Artists
The Alliance for Watershed Education seeks to commission interdisciplinary high quality original works of art for its network of 23 environmental centers. The art at each center will serve as a focal point to inspire people to explore, enjoy, and engage with the watershed while creating awareness and advocacy for the protection and restoration of the Delaware River Watershed. Reading Theater Project Fringe Call
Take a creative risk with the Reading Theater Project. Performing artists are invited to submit an original piece for our upcoming five minute fringe festival, FAIRY TALES: FACT OR FICTION. All submissions should connect to the theme. Weekly creative labs begin in mid-January. The performances will be at the Yocum Institute for Arts Education in February, 2018. All pieces should be a minimum of five minutes long and no longer than 10 minutes in length. Submissions are due Monday, January 1, 2018.
